TRAGIC: Man Sentenced to At Least 8 Years After Brutal Stabbing at Las Vegas Casino

Shayne Sussman sentenced to 8-20 years for stabbing two casino employees and attacking a security guard; victim describes ongoing trauma.

LAS VEGAS – A horrifying night at Red Rock Resort Casino & Spa has ended in justice, as a judge sentenced 25-year-old Shayne Sussman to a minimum of eight years in prison for the violent stabbing of two employees and an attack on a security guard.

The shocking incident unfolded around 1 a.m. on August 3, sending panic through the casino floor. Sussman, reportedly highly intoxicated, stabbed two employees before turning his knife toward a security guard. In a desperate act of self-defense, another security officer fired a shot, striking Sussman in the stomach and bringing the chaos to an end.

Sussman later pleaded guilty by way of an Alford plea to three counts of attempted murder, meaning he did not admit guilt but acknowledged prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him. On Thursday, Clark County District Court Judge Susan Johnson sentenced him to a minimum of eight years, with a maximum of 20.

During the sentencing, victims shared harrowing accounts of the traumatic night and the lasting emotional toll. Security guard Chance Sanders recounted how he narrowly dodged the knife before his fellow guard fired the life-saving shot. The trauma still lingers, with Sanders describing nights of waking up in tears, overwhelmed with gratitude for surviving the attack.

One of the victims, in a letter read aloud in court, shared how the assault led to panic attacks, financial struggles, and deep emotional wounds—but also helped him rediscover his passion for art. Despite the suffering, he expressed hope that Sussman would use his prison time for personal growth rather than becoming just another statistic.

Sussman also spoke, expressing remorse and insisting the attack did not reflect who he truly is. His lawyer cited extreme intoxication as a factor, revealing that his blood alcohol level was a staggering 0.254%—more than three times the legal limit.

While the victims continue to cope with the physical and emotional scars, justice has been served, ensuring that a night of terror will not go unanswered.
