Ella Skrzyniarz: Breaking Career Records as a Junior

On Jan. 2, junior Ella Skrzyniarz broke the record for points scored in a women’s basketball career at Vista del Lago High School.

Skrzyniarz started as a freshman on varsity, averaging 13.1 points and six rebounds per game. She totaled 380 points in her first season. Her hard work continued into her next season as she averaged 20.1 points and 6.5 rebounds. In just three more games than she played in the previous year, she managed to score a total of 644 points.

Halfway through her high school career, she had already managed to score 1,024 points. Then, in her junior year, Skrzyniarz averaged 21.5 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game. She totaled 665 points in one less game than the year before.

With 1689 points scored over three seasons of varsity basketball, Skrzyniarz has dominated the court. Along with scoring, she has also racked up 640 rebounds.

Skrzyniarz dominates the offensive side of the court, but she also dominates the defensive side. She leads the team with an average of three steals per game. “She works her tail off the whole game on both ends of the court… She works hard on the defensive end too,” said Head Coach Marty Benjamin.

As Skrzyniarz just completed her third year of varsity basketball at Vista, she continues to play and extend her record. “It’s cool because I worked hard, but I still have more,” said Skrzyniarz.

Skrzyniarz is the go-to scorer at Vista, but she is also one of the top scorers in California. With 257 field goals made this year, the phenom is top 13 in the state, and she recently led the team with 24 points to win the Division 3 CIF Sac-Joaquin Sections vs. Manteca.

As she looks toward senior year, it’s back to the off-season grind. “She has averaged 20 points both her sophomore and junior year and I don’t expect anything less, because I know what she’s gonna put in from the end of this season to the start of next year,” said Benjamin.

Skrzyniarz is a great basketball player and she continues to get better. We look forward to seeing her dominate in her senior year.
