Everett, WA – A terrifying incident has left the Everett community on edge after a 13-year-old boy was stabbed on his way to school. Authorities have now arrested Andrew Freeman, the suspect believed to be responsible for the attack.
The Everett Police Department (EPD) confirmed Freeman’s arrest around 4 p.m. on January 29 after a community member alerted them to his location. He was taken into custody without incident and is set to be booked into Snohomish County Jail on first-degree assault charges.
A Shocking and Brazen Attack
The attack occurred at 8 a.m. on January 16, as the young victim walked to North Middle School. Witnesses reported seeing a man approach the boy from behind and stab him before fleeing the scene. The victim was rushed to the hospital, and though details of his condition remain limited, the incident has deeply shaken the local community.
During their search for Freeman, investigators discovered he had been arrested by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office less than an hour after the stabbing on an unrelated drug charge. However, he was released the following day, before police had connected him to the attack.
Authorities had described Freeman as a 5-foot-10 Black male, last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and yellow beanie. After an urgent manhunt and a plea for public assistance, his arrest has finally brought some relief to worried parents and students.
Community Outrage and Fear
Parents and residents of Everett remain deeply disturbed by the attack, with many now opting to drive their children to school instead of letting them walk.
“This is terrifying—it happened so close to home,” said a local father named Gabriel. Another parent, Mitra, recalled receiving panicked messages from her daughter about the heavy police presence near the school.
Authorities have promised increased security in the area and assured the community that all necessary resources will be deployed to ensure student safety.
