LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas substitute teacher has turned himself in after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a juvenile student, according to the Clark County School District Police Department (CCSDPD).
Kurt Tumbagahan, 25, surrendered to the Clark County District Court after a summons was issued by the District Attorney’s Office. Court records indicate that he faces multiple serious charges, including attempting to contact a minor for the purpose of sex and two counts of engaging in sexual conduct with a person 16 or older on school property or during a school activity.
The disturbing allegations surfaced after an investigation was launched on January 7 at Valley High School, where Tumbagahan was assigned as a substitute teacher. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the nature of the investigation or how the allegations came to light.
Tumbagahan had been employed as a substitute with the Clark County School District (CCSD) since April 2024. Following the accusations, he was immediately removed from CCSD’s substitute teacher pool and is no longer eligible to work within the district.
The case has sparked concerns among parents and educators, highlighting the importance of strict vetting processes and oversight in school environments. CCSD has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, but law enforcement officials have assured the community that they are taking the matter seriously.
