Matthew Lillard ‘Scream 7’ Brings Back a Classic Villain!
Matthew Lillard is making a shocking return in Scream 7! Fans are thrilled as the horror legend joins the latest installment of the iconic slasher series.

Matthew Lillard, best known for playing Stu Macher in the original 1996 Scream movie, is making a shocking return in Scream 7. Fans have been wondering how this is possible since Stu seemingly met his end nearly 30 years ago.
In the first Scream movie, Stu was one of the killers alongside Billy Loomis. The two tried to frame their victims by stabbing each other, but their plan failed when Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell) fought back. She ultimately defeated Stu by dropping a TV on his head. Since then, many believed he was dead. However, Lillard’s recent Instagram post suggests he is indeed coming back—but how? A twin brother? A secret survival story? The mystery remains.
Lillard’s return to the franchise is huge news, as Scream helped launch his career. After starring as Stu, he went on to appear in movies like She’s All That, The Descendants, and the live-action Scooby-Doo films. More recently, he played a major role in Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s.
Scream 7 is bringing back several familiar faces, including legacy cast members Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox. They will be joined by Scott Foley, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and a group of newcomers such as Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos.
The movie will be directed by Kevin Williamson, the original creator of the Scream franchise. The script is being written by Guy Busick, who also worked on the 2022 Scream and Scream VI. The film is being produced by James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein, who were also involved in the last two movies.
The Scream franchise first began in 1996 with the late Wes Craven directing four films: Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream 4 (2011). After a long break, the series was revived in 2022 with the fifth movie simply titled Scream. Its sequel, Scream VI, was released in March 2023 and became the highest-grossing film in the series, earning over $108 million in the U.S. and $169 million worldwide. Overall, the Scream movies have made more than $900 million at the global box office.
Matthew Lillard is represented by Verve, Strand Entertainment, and Heller Law. Fans are now eagerly waiting to see how he will return in Scream 7 and what surprises the movie will bring.
