Singer, songwriter, producer, and father Kanye West’s song “Good (Don’t Die)” was removed from Spotify and Apple Music. The entire album is under threat of being removed because of West’s history of antisemitic comments.

West, who now goes by Ye, released the album “Vultures 1” on Feb. 9, 2024, with artist Ty Dolla $ign. It features 16 songs, including the track “Good (Don’t Die)”.

The song uses a sample of the 1977 track “I Feel Love” by Donna Summer. Sommer’s estate denied permission to use it because of West’s controversial political opinions. However, West released the track anyway, and it was removed for copyright violations.

He has put out his fair share of controversial opinions. For example, in an interview with controversial media personality Alex Jones, West said, “I see good things about Hitler, too.”

Multiple comments like these caused West to lose his partnership with Adidas. They terminated their contract in 2022 due to “a tirade of antisemitic remarks.” West lost over $1 billion with this deal.

However, these comments and outbursts are not entirely West’s fault.

West has spoken about his struggle with bipolar disorder through his music. On his “Ye” album cover, he jokes about it with the words, “I hate being Bi-Polar [sic] it’s awesome.” In the song “Yikes”, he includes lines about how Ye is his third person, and later in the song, he calls bipolar his superpower.

Despite his problematic statements, West’s music is still loved by many. “I think most Vista students like Kanye.” Vista del Lago High School student Alejandro Nava says. I listen to music with lots of other students, and Kanye is always a safe bet to play.”

West has produced legendary albums such as “The College Dropout”, “Graduation”, “Late Registration”, and “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”, along with many other amazing albums.

West has had four songs reach the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100, with over half of his songs reaching at least the top 40s. He has won 24 Grammys and is considered one of the greatest artists of his generation. He gained lots of his popularity through his ability to rap without the use of violence or drugs in his lyrics. According to Nava, “He doesn’t focus on his rapping a lot. His production is very good and his ability to make majestic beats that come together to immerse the listener,” said Nava.
