Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes to theaters Dec.15, making it the tenth installment in the Star Wars film series. The film is the second movie of the third trilogy, following 2015’s The Force Awakens.

Both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi are directed by J. J. Abrams, and Episode IX is set to be as well. Abrams took over for George Lucas, who directed Episodes I, II, III and created Lucasfilm, the production company that produces the Star Wars series, Indiana Jones, and many more films and television shows.

According to IMDB, the movie is about, “Having taken her first steps into the Jedi world, Rey joins Luke Skywalker on an adventure with Leia, Finn and Poe that unlocks mysteries of the Force and secrets of the past.”

The synopsis provided offers little insight to key plot points of the movie, but the main theatrical trailer, released in October, hints at some possible events in the story.

The highlights of the trailer are that Luke seems to be serving as a role model to Rey, attempts to guide her on using her newfound abilities, and the ever-looming threat of Kylo Ren and the First Order.

Most characters from The Force Awakens will be returning, such as Finn and Poe, while new characters will be introduced, such as Rose Tico, a Resistance maintenance worker.

Carrie Fisher will also be returning as Leia Organa, despite her passing last December. Filming      had been completed by the time of her death, so the plot was left untouched for The Last Jedi.

Fisher’s role was meant to be much more prominent in the final movie of the trilogy, set to be released in 2019, but the story will have to be changed. Lucasfilm has said that they will not be digitally recreating Fisher in upcoming films.

Alongside the most notable characters, a few people are rumored to have an appearance in the movie. In talking with BBC Radio, John Boyega, Finn, revealed that Prince Harry and Prince William were on set at one point, as well as Tom Hardy. Whether or not these cameos will be noticeable or just an inside joke–like Daniel Craig’s appearance in The Force Awakens–is to be determined.

The Last Jedi promises to bring more action and adventure to the lives of the new trio, and fans both young and old are excited to see it.

“I’m excited to see the characters and watch them as they continue on their journeys,” said Laura Klein, a senior at Vista del Lago. “I love watching the newer films with my parents, [who are] older Star Wars fans, and hearing about when they saw the first Star Wars films for the first time in theaters.”

Overall, The Last Jedi promises to be just as thrilling and entertaining as the previous installments, and fans of all ages can’t wait to see it.
