Entertainment is everywhere. From movies to plays to music, it’s hard to know which ones to watch or listen to. In a fast-growing industry where blockbuster hits pop up everywhere, the battle for sales reigns supreme. This forces the movie industries to step-up their game and create never-before-seen movies.

An example of a withstanding movie company is the $4-billion-valued Marvel Comics. They’ve produced movies since 2007 and are still successful in the industry today.

The newest addition to the Marvel movies has once again captured the audience’s eye. Many argue that “Black Panther” is a movie suitable for its time and mixed opinions and reviews go across the internet in a flurry of comments. Is “Black Panther” really worth the rave?

Nate Koning, a Vista Del Lago High School student, gives one of many opinions. Koning is a long-time fan of the Marvel movies, and he explained that he couldn’t just choose one as a favorite.

At the beginning of March 2018, Koning watched Black Panther in theaters for the first time. From the start, he saw an important difference in this movie compared to the other Marvel movies. “It showed more diversity with the African-American culture. It was a refreshing change having the white male in the movie as a supporting actor, rather than the other way around,” said Koning. He had rated it a nine.

Koning joins countless others in the opinion that Marvel made a positive move in being more inclusive of the African-American community. 

He also liked the graphics and thought it was realistic. The main reason he wanted to see it was that “it looked good and the cultural appropriation seemed interesting to view. There was a lot of hype around the movie, so it was hard not to want to. Plus, the trailers looked intense.”

The movie mirrored many real-life issues. It showed hardships of the African-American race, and it presented ideas of what would happen if the roles reversed. The movie didn’t offer a perfect solution, but it did make a strong point on how equality should work.

Marvel showed a put-together, strong society working together to better their nation, and later their world. The graphics drew the audience into the movie and gave them an unforgettable experience.

“Black Panther” is one of many elements responsible for changes in this important time in our history. It reflects a world becoming more inclusive and open-minded than ever before.
