The Varsity Playoff Dream

For the third straight year, the Vista Eagles varsity football team made playoffs. “You play to win the game!” Edwards said, and that’s exactly what the Eagles football team did. They played hard all year long.

The Eagles had multiple obstacles to deal with this year. They had injuries, they were missing veteran players who were solid but have graduated, and they also a coaching change. Coach Jones retired as the head coach and the Mike Struebing, last year’s offensive coordinator, replaced him.

The team started the season with a tough loss on the road to Oak Ridge, but they came over the adversity and got on a roll of wins. The finished the season with a 7-4 record, going 4-2 in league. They finished tied for second  with Liberty Ranch and El Dorado. That put Vista as a number 11 seed in the division-three playoff bracket.

“It has been a great season, but still unfinished business to take care of,” said Hunter Walls.

The team is excited to be in the playoffs, but they are nowhere near the goal they set out in the beginning of the year, which was win sections.
