Authorities say the suspects ambushed a 25-year-old man, shot him in the back with an AK-47, and robbed him before fleeing the scene.
The terrifying incident unfolded on August 1, 2024, inside the Grand Avenue parking structure. According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was confronted by a masked group wielding firearms. As he attempted to escape, one assailant opened fire with an AK-47 assault rifle, critically wounding him. After stealing his belongings, the attackers vanished, leaving the man fighting for his life.
Emergency responders quickly arrived, rushing the victim to Hackensack University Medical Center. Despite the severity of his injuries, he survived.
Months of intensive investigation led detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Englewood Police Department to identify four suspects: Denzil Bailey (26), Iquwann Quick (31), Dwight Stephenson (34), and Osarumwense Uzamere (27), all residents of Queens, New York.
Bailey was the first to be taken into custody on January 16. He now faces a slew of charges, including first-degree attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery, and multiple weapons offenses. He remains detained at Bergen County Jail.
The remaining three suspects evaded authorities until January 28, when a multi-agency task force, including the FBI, NYPD, Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and Englewood Police, tracked them down in New York City. They were arrested and face identical charges.
As of Wednesday morning, Quick, Stephenson, and Uzamere were still in custody in New York, awaiting extradition to Bergen County. Authorities have not disclosed any additional details regarding their court proceedings.
